GREEN LANTERN MOVIE REVIEW: FIRST FLIGHT

I just watched what was possibly the slickest and best animated film to come out of the WB.
Green Lantern: First flight is a about an hour and twenty minutes of action packed fun and decent voice acting.
BUT- It does have some very big problems, mainly the origin of Hal Jordan and his character development.
There is a big hole in how the main character becomes what he is and how he gets used to his powers
or even how is powers work.

Green Lantern is about an army pilot who is summoned by by an alien to a crash site. The dying alien gives Hal
"The Green Power Ring", tells him he has been chosen by the ring and to use it wisely. The alien then dies and as Hal puts on the ring he becomes the Green Lantern.

From there it just cuts to him using his powers with no explanation, no margin of trial and error, no introspection on what he's to do with this power. He is simply instantly the Green Lantern. When you have a movie that revolves around MOST of the characters using the same ring power, you better explain how it works to a degree.
Being a comic fan I know the rings run on willpower and concentration. The powers are shaped by the creativity and
focus of the ring bearer- THAT IS LEFT COMPLETELY OUT.

That GLARING problem poisoned the whole movie for me, I couldnt get passed what a big hole there was in the story,I felt like there was a big part missing. This could have been explained through 2 additional minutes or a montage at minimal.I feel the writers/director really damaged what could have been a great film.

ANYWAY if you can get past that big story hole, and you don't mind that Hal Jordan as a person has one dimension to him, there is alot to like.

The outer space epic if full of fun, and Sinestro the main villain character is handled well, he has the most dimension out of all the characters here.

SO my final say is- Rent it if you love comic book action animation!
But be willing to look past the big failure in telling the story.

If i was going to give it a rating from 1 to 5 stars....hmmm

I'll give it a 3. (though it could have easily been a 4.5 star effort)
